Weather project

                                                                Food Editorial

This weather project was exciting for me as i was given the opportunity to think outside of the box in a way that was exciting and unique. I chose to base my project on a food editorial spread. The weather project insisted on showing things that you see in your life daily ad adapting that to weather. I decided to choose food and display it in the format of an editorial spread. This gave me room to play about with different weather concepts. I chose to do spring an autumn, two very different weather bases, one that is very vibrant, light and colourful and the other very golden, comforting and cosy. This worked well in food as for spring I was able to use the fresh produce and ingredients to portray that particular weather and for autumn I was able to more rustic an indulgent food types. I think this project worked well as it catered visually to my concept brief whilst also showing continuity.
The one thing that was picked up in terms of this to change or improve upon was the title ' Autumn's makers'. The colour was said to be swapped as the white of the 'smakers' stands out more than the autumn. I do agree with this as this could help to improve the overall look of the mag editorial.

3 in 1

Tender

magazine cover

discover

The 3 in 1 project i found fun as it involved a diverse range a short punchy projects that involved all parts of my interests. I like to re-brand, illustrate (my arty side) and also photography. So each project catered to which. I really enjoyed the 'discover somewhere new' in London project and found I was able to give new life to the area that would possibly attract eyes.

The economist magazine illustration project I found interesting as I was able to experiment with my ability to relay information in symbolic forms such as illustration. This was based on the 3 monkeys, see no evil hear no evil see no evil referring to the media as the 'evil'. And I drew the monkey holding an advisory sign covering a television screen (one of the most influential media outlets created). This was symbolic of a warning sign, advising those who watch Tv to be ware of media influence just as sign like such would be put onto cd that contain influential profanities.

The photography project with me using the word 'tender' was to provide a sentimental take on a moment captured in time. A relay of moments in ones lifetime.

Wayfinding project

I wasn't too thrilled with the wayfinding project. The info graphics wasn't something that I warmed or found exciting. I do prefer more promotional graphics however I aimed to put a spin on this project and form a campaign that you may find on the tube or thriving community based areas. The 'possibilities map' was introduced as a way to spark thoughts and ideas about someone aged 16-28 about their future plans and the goals that they would someday achieve. I was a future thought provoking campaign that would hopefully come together on social media sites such a Twitter and Facebook as people make their own map and eventually there would be a vast collection of possibilities maps that would inspire success.

Elastoplast Poster

Elastoplast poster advert

I created this project during the christmas holiday period. This task was to create a poster design for Elastoplast re-vamping the brand. This for me, topped the film poster project as I was bale to visualise this in commercial areas such as a bus stop or motor way ad. I was excited by the possible strong branding opportunity and being able to create something that was eye catching, that people could really respond to. As an expansion suggestion, placing this in other areas to see similar response would look stronger as branding material.
For the branding i wanted to convey as sense of childhood, family orientation and commerciality friendliness. I played on the concept of family activities and children. This poster suggests sports, promoting activity and healthy fun. The wheelbarrow game demonstrated int he main image is in collaboration with the branding text "for those who play tough". A rounded sense of healthy competition and a down to earth understanding that children will be children and boys will be boys, therefore a product like Elastoplast would definitely be useful in such activities. This advert shows also sponsor prospects as it could also be the type of brand that sponsors other sporting companies. The colours are strong and bold, and unisex appropriate for the product. The aim also was to highlight the new Elastoplast that is much long in length than the previous one. This is conveyed throught the text 'a bandage for the long mile'. I again really enjoyed the outcome of this project.

Fashion Promotion Outcome

id magazine
Eccentric

I have a great interest in fashion promotion. This project was one of the most creatively stimulating that I have encountered one the course. We looked through a vast amount of magazines to see which inspired a great outcome for us and based upon the project requirements I chose ID magazine. Visiting somerset house to view Isabella blow's great exhibition of garments was truly fascinating. I could only imagine the time and dedication that went into creating one of the pieces. I was inspired by the word eccentric and played upon the overly decadent lifestyle of the rich but down played it the contrasting domestic home settings. It still remained it's tastefulness as the home interiors were rather modern and classy. I wanted to draw from the eccentric lifestyle of Ms Havisham and the concept of being adorned in fine wear but displaying it in the home. This task went very well but I think my favourite of the 3 pages is the double page spread as the clean lines and finish provides and edgy contrast for the theme that I intended. I received great feedback from this project in terms of the way that I can improve it. It gave me room and positive instructions as to create something that was consistent, especially as this was one of my first larger projects.

2 Week Experimentation

Laser Cut Prototype
My business is to create.
I found the laser cut project fun as I have never used a laser cutter machine before.  I used bases of my manifesto to inspire my laser cut creation. I plan on using this again.

2 Week Experimentation

Wine Bottle
Calligraphy Design
Allyce

Today's project we looked at calligraphy and the ways that text was invented. We experimented with ink and various coloured paper. I was able to practise the ways that text was formed and the shapes that made up the different text. I personally preferred ink on white paper. This is where i formed my proposed brand name Allyce. I thought that this would be a good name for a brand of wine... it seemed to fit for some reason. Them name seemed personal and comforting yet diverse enough for a brand name. The spelling especially gave way for a foreign wine brand. For me Allyce seemed to fit a south african brand of wine. I created the bottle with the golden yellow, much like an african safari sunset and the striking white tree against the black stood out to me for good brand recognition. Differing on the type of wine, be it red, rose or white, the colour of the word would change accordingly.
I LOVED  this project, as i am a wine fan but also because these are the type of live projects i hope to do in the future.

2 Week Experimentation

Book Cover

Today's task was to research and create book covers for puffin publishing company. At first I didn't find much interest in this project as creating book covers/hard backs didn't excite me. However I used this opportunity to base the cover on a subject that I did like. This being fashion and advertising I found a way that I could get stuck into the project. I based the cover of the book on a contemporary/art deco theme with the shaped and my drawn Picasso inspired face. The colours are also quite contrasting, almost like battle/warrior colours and so this helped reflect the title of the book. Change in aesthetics. The 'war' within advertising.

2 Week Experimentation

Film Poster fro The new film 'The 33' based upon the Chile miners.

So I started my two week experimentation project today. This was quite a fun project for me. Apparently the new film coming out '33' didn't have any graphics for it yet and so our task today was to  create a poster that would promote the film. Today was the first time that I was able to use inDesign. it reminded me of photoshop as a lot of the buttons were the same but I learnt today that most in the professional world that do live graphic work use inDesign as the programme allows for the quality resolution of your texts as good as seen on screen as when printed.  I enjoyed this project a lot as it gave me somewhat of an impression as to how the graphic design industry is. I liked the fact that I was able to create something that wasn't out yet but needed to be created. Also I like that I could create something that had an actual professional finish to it. I received a lot of amazing feedback on this piece as the finish of the image and the way the images conveyed the purpose of the film. I would have liked getting constructive feedback on this piece just as a personal target of mine to improve it in any areas possible. Today was a productive day and i will in future be practising and using InDesign again.
