TIME
My group and i was given the word 'Time' to form a poster design that captured the essence of the word whilst providing meaning. I understood the concept and connotations of the word and brought about a sense of nostalgia and speed. These factors would contrast well against one another.
I used a black and white image from the film Brief Encounter, which is classed as one of the best and 'timeless' romance films. I tried to understand through this poster the concept of capturing time and essence of a single moment. This was accompanied by the falling autumn leaves that reveal sentimental value within the black and white image. The image is taken of the leaves falling in mid air, showing the unawareness of time ending. Alongside the speed on the London city and the sparkling but fast paced lights the poster design is a snapshot of memory, nostalgia, continuity and reality. I included a great quote by William Gibson which highlights both the nostalgic sense within the poster and also the subject of time. We are often thrown into the speed of time and captured by the memory of its existence.
I enjoyed this task today as for me it was an introductory task almost and also a refresher task in my previously practised photoshop skills. This task proved to be more about my layering and editing ability. I was given a lot of positive feedback from my group today. "I like the way you managed to bring about the warm lights through the image and have it dotted in the right places". At this stage, i'm not sure if that was a happy accident or if it was entirely on purpose, but I think it worked effectively. "I like the thought you put into the autumn leaves falling over their faces". This in fact was intentional as it created the illusion of them being in a park as time stood still for them in love as autumn fell around them. I also wanted to highlight the edges of some of the buildings in the back and bring the light in them forward. This for me enhanced the beauty and romance of the city.
I received some constructive feedback about the text however and how it should have maybe been smaller and in a slightly different position that flowed within the image. I learnt especially from this task that the text can really make a deciding difference to the overall composition of the image. I ,overall enjoyed doing this project.

Today I was involved in a life drawing session. I have previously been apart of a life drawing course. I always enjoy the life drawing during the middle of the session as I become more fluent with the pencil/drawing tool. I find that the way in which I perceive the model comes to true form on my paper. It's a great experience for anyone with an art background or those in general as the persons 'perspective' of life and still is enhanced. I improve in my free hand drawing skills every time I take part.
We were asked to demonstrate time limited pieces to help with our form of something at first view. So for example I completed a few drawings that ranged from 10 minutes to 10 seconds. As we began with the longer sessions first, I was able to pick up my proportion skills and eye for detail .This helped me when it came to the shorter sessions as my interpretation of the human form was still present despite not drawing all features of the body.
I took a lot away from the task of my 'collective drawing'. This is when one person started the drawing of the model and then after a certain amount of time, passed the image along for the next to make additional marks. When I finally received my last drawing and made my own marks, I found I took ownership and was able to make marks of direction and fluidity. This is exemplified in the first image above. I took insight into this as a reflection of larger group tasks. It showed me how I might be, in terms of taking a leadership role and being in charge of the base and finishing touches of a project. This task I did find successful.

Storyboards
She was seen
She was taken away
She was taken in
She was adornedShe was loved
She lived on
My task for today was to take and use photos of our own to form a six frame storyboard that creates disturbance, interest, intrigue and uniqueness. I based mine on a graduation of emotion reaching from sadness to a happy ending.
These are my collection of edited photos.
These series of photos hopefully engage visually whilst forming a sentimental story to which viewers can appreciate. I had a critic today where we went around evaluating the impact of our storyboards. My story needed an obstacle/downfall within it and so i decided to change it slightly. Instead of... the woman getting married and that being it, her water surprising broke as she was leaving the church and being by herself at this point she rushed to the hospital. Her newly married groom rushed after her in the car behind and in panic crashed the car and died. The downfall was that again she was alone in a country that was alien to her. As a resolution however, she gave birth to two beautiful twins hat were both apart of her and him that will live on and accompany her throughout her life time.... she found company and a happiness that out lived her. This day was very interesting as i was able to step back from my work and improve it in a way that pleased more people than it did initially.

Graphics
Today in graphics, i did a short experimentation task that forced me outside of my comfort box and pushed me to act instinctively and not over process my actions. We did a few portraiture drawings of other students and ourselves and i. I really felt that this task opened my eyes to my own creative abilities for future tasks.
Our second main task was to create fonts. I created a font using sellotape and a fine green pen. This was the one i liked best as i hadn't seen anything like it among anyone else's work and also it formed a digital/ futuristic look to the font.
Our main task for the week was to produce a poster advertising an exhibition of our work over 20 years in a large art gallery. I created a poster using text, colour blog collage and cutouts to describe myself. I envisioned myself as predominantly an entrepreneur baker and would be exhibiting my work in the V&A. I began by sketching numerous miniature versions of this poster until i found which one represented me best. This helped me mass produce design ideas in a short amount of time helping me with the concept of time management.
I cut out my shapes using mainly red and black (which is a consistent pattern throughout my work and blog) and then used those to form silhouettes of cupcakes and a large art deco cut out of myself. Alongside a triangular success point and the V&A logo, my poster came together nicely. I then added the body of text at the base of the poster. This was written in fancy italics as it matched the 'baker' branding of my self; quite delicate and fancy shows the type of creative artist i am.
I enjoyed creating this poster as it gave a sense of personality. The edgy approach with the triangular cut outs for my dress against the circles within the poster form a nice visual contrast however if i were to improve this poster i would try to reduce the amount off white space. Whether this issue was created because it was made my hand and not digitally is unclear to me but a bolder more eye catching layout i think would make this poster much better.
Overall graphics was definitely a great week, and i enjoyed my own personal experimentation.
